L’importance de l’exfoliation

The importance of exfoliation

You already know this: a skincare routine consists of several steps. We have already told you about the art of properly cleansing your skin in one of our previous articles. After cleansing, comes an important step to make your routine and your serums and creams more effective: exfoliation. Here is his little practical guide!

Why is exfoliation important?

Exfoliation is an important step in skincare because it removes dead cells to reveal brighter, softer skin. This practice stimulates cell renewal, which helps improve the texture of the skin and makes it smoother. It also helps to unclog pores, which helps prevent breakouts and helps in the treatment of acne.

Exfoliation also allows treatments, serums and creams, which you will apply later, to better penetrate the skin, making them more effective.

The different types of exfoliants

There are several types of exfoliants: physical and chemical.

  • Physical exfoliants: these use abrasive particles that rub and polish the skin to remove dead cells. This type of exfoliant is very common and there are crushed fruit stones or microbeads, such as our Vita-B enzymatic exfoliant. These exfoliants are quite aggressive and allow effective elimination of dead cells.
  • Chemical exfoliants: they use active ingredients such as alpha-hydroxy acids (AHA) or beta-hydroxy acids (BH), which gently dissolve dead cells and impurities. They are often used for sensitive skin or for specific areas of the skin, such as acne-prone areas or pigment spots. Our Glycolic Acid Gel Pads and Glycolic Gel make part of this category of exfoliants.

What to choose?

It is important to note that both categories of exfoliators can be effective in improving skin texture, but some skin types may tolerate one or the other better. Physical exfoliants may be too abrasive for sensitive skin, while chemical exfoliants may cause irritation or redness in some people. It's important to choose an exfoliator that's right for your skin type and use it in moderation to avoid long-term damage to your skin.
